The add-data route

  1. Open the Nomad app and go to My eSIM.
  2. Select the eSIM you are using.
  3. Choose Add More Data if the option is available.
  4. Pick the add-on and complete checkout.
  5. Check the plan status in the app before relying on it.

Nomad says an add-on becomes active automatically as the original plan expires or runs out. The exact availability depends on the eSIM, so check early in the trip—not on a platform with no Wi-Fi and 1% data left.

Check Eligible Nomad Plans

What if you already ran out?

Nomad's guidance says you cannot add more data once the eSIM has expired or data is exhausted. You may need a new eSIM. Its web-purchase guidance also says additional data is not currently available on the web in the same way as the iOS app, so know your app access before travelling.

Add-on versus new plan

SituationBetter move
Add More Data appears and plan remains activeBuy the add-on early
Plan has expired or data is goneBuy a new eSIM if needed
New country not includedBuy a plan that covers the new destination
You need a much larger amount for workCompare a larger new plan against several add-ons

Do not expect remaining data to transfer into the add-on. Nomad says leftover original-plan data does not roll over.

Reduce the chance of needing it

Turn off cloud photo sync, auto-updates and high-quality video playback on mobile data. Download offline maps and entertainment on Wi-Fi. If you use hotspot for a laptop, budget as though the laptop is the plan owner—it can consume data much faster than the phone. See our hotspot and tethering guide for data-budgeting tips.

FAQ

Can every Nomad eSIM be topped up?

No. Nomad says not every eSIM supports add-ons; check the plan/app before relying on it.

Can I extend the validity of Nomad eSIM?

Nomad says validity cannot be extended. An add-on may let you continue with the same eSIM where supported.

Does unused data roll into the add-on?

No. Nomad says remaining original-plan data does not roll over.

Bottom line

Check usage before it becomes urgent. If an add-on is offered, buy it while the plan is still active; if not, choose a new plan with the correct coverage.
