The five checks that fix most problems

Nomad says activation may not happen until the device finds a supported network with data roaming on. A plan can look inactive in the app for a few minutes even after arrival, so refresh and wait before assuming it has failed.

If you have signal but no internet

Check the APN. Nomad publishes provider-specific APN settings and says username/password fields should generally be left blank. Use only the APN shown for your Nomad provider; do not copy a random internet APN into your phone.

If the correct APN is already there, toggle airplane mode. If that fails, turn off automatic network selection and try a supported available network. Restart the phone after changes.

Work through settings in order — data line, roaming, network — before changing anything drastic.

iPhone quick route

Open Settings > Mobile Service/Cellular. Ensure the Nomad line is on, chosen under Mobile Data and has roaming enabled. Turn off cellular-data switching. If the eSIM cannot be added, check Wi-Fi, carrier unlock and whether it is already present in the SIM list. See Nomad eSIM compatible devices for the unlock check.

Android quick route

On Samsung: Settings > Connections > SIM manager. On Pixel/other Android: Settings > Network & internet > SIMs. Set Nomad as mobile data, enable roaming, then follow Nomad's APN guidance only if needed.

Never delete first

Nomad warns that deleting an active eSIM may invalidate it and prevent restoration. Take screenshots of settings, errors and your order details first. Its eSIMs are single-use/non-transferable, so deletion is not a harmless reset button.

When to contact support

Use Nomad live chat through the website or app after the checklist. Send: order email, phone model, OS version, destination, screenshots of eSIM settings, error text and the steps already tried. That lets support diagnose rather than ask you to repeat the basics.

Coupon note: If you are buying a replacement plan, ESIMDUDE15 gives 15% off eligible Nomad plans. Do not use it as a reason to delete a plan that support can still repair.

FAQ

Why does Nomad say not activated?

It may need to connect to a supported local network with roaming enabled. Refresh the app after a few minutes and confirm Nomad is the data line.

Should I delete and reinstall Nomad eSIM?

No—not before speaking with support. Nomad warns deletion can invalidate the profile.

What APN should I use?

Use only the provider-specific APN in Nomad's official instructions; leave username/password blank unless Nomad says otherwise.

Bottom line

Fix settings in order, preserve the eSIM, then send support useful evidence. Most failures are a data-line, roaming or registration issue—not a reason to panic at the airport.
